The Northern Pantanal is the best place in the world to see wild jaguars, if you know where to go. Jaguars were hunted for their skins in the 1960s and 70s until they nearly disappeared from here. Since tourism grew in the 1980s they have come back, and today you can watch cats of over 100 kg walking the riverbanks.

Since 2003, every guest who stayed at least three nights in the Porto Jofre region has seen a jaguar. Wildlife is never guaranteed, but each extra day on the river adds more chances, and giant otters are often seen on the same stretches.
