Since 2003, every guest who stayed at least three nights in the Porto Jofre region has seen a jaguar.

Our guides spent years searching for jaguars around Porto Jofre before we started our own tours. They know where the cats are likely to be, and they work closely with the lodge owners and local people along the road.

Wildlife is never guaranteed. What we can promise is a fantastic experience on the biggest wetland in the world.

Choose how far down the road you go

The Transpantaneira runs 147 km from Poconé into the wetland and ends at the river port of Porto Jofre. The further you go, the wilder it gets.

Along the way, the road crosses more than 100 bridges and passes lodges on old cattle ranches, where the tours stay.

When to go

Two seasons, both worth the trip

The Pantanal floods and drains every year. Each half of the cycle shows you different animals.

Flood season Dry season High season: lodges fill up, book early

December – May

Flood

Lowland forest and fields flood, and mammals and reptiles gather on forest islands and scrubland, where they are easy to see. Green landscapes and fewer visitors.

June – November

Dry

Wildlife spreads across the whole area, and birds crowd the ponds where fish were trapped by the falling water. The best months for jaguars on the river banks.

Your guide

“I have been guiding on the Transpantaneira since 1994.”

My name is Fisher Sousa. I am a certified naturalist guide from Cuiabá, and the Northern Pantanal has been my workplace for more than thirty years. I guide wildlife photographers, birdwatchers, jaguar spotters and families.

I spent many years searching for jaguars around Porto Jofre, and that is where I learned how to find them. Over time I built a good relationship with the lodge owners and local people along the road, so I know which lodge suits each traveller.

All my tours are private. I meet you at Cuiabá airport and I am with you until I bring you back for your flight.
